I love everything “local”. I love the spirit of entrepreneurship and supporting my community which has led me to REALLY try hard and shop/eat at “local” places vs chains. It was hard at first but I have found so many treasures along the way making me want to support this trend even more. About a week ago, my twin sister, Becca, graduated radiology technician school so my mom, brother, sister and I went on a road trip to celebrate! Sometimes it’s hard to stick with the “local” concept when traveling because if you are paying for a meal at a place you know nothing about….. it’s easy to be skeptical! But, I think we did a great job of trying some really cool places!
These are ALL instagram and iphone shots! It was so nice to give my big camera a break for a week! 🙂
We started off Sunday night en route to Harrisburg, PA and arrived pretty late. We SERIOUSLY overpack!!!
Morning selfie with the siblings!
The next day in Harrisburg we stopped at ABC Brewing Company for lunch which was AMAZING! They have great local beer and root beer, a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers, and a super comfortable vibe to their restaurant. Our waitress was GREAT! I chose the Trail Burger which is kind of a make your own option. (Great for my vegetarian siblings). I chose the grilled chicken breast with the “fire jumper” which was a super spicy option!
The capitol of PA is gorgeous!!!
Next we headed to Watkins Glen, NY and YES that is a waterfall behind a house!!!!!
For lunch we went to the Glen Mountain Market down the road from the epic waterfalls. While my turkey sandwich on focaccia bread was delicious the food was a tad pricey for lunch! It was about 70.00 for four sandwiches, bottles of water, plain chips, and two cookies. It was also definitely aimed towards the locals! When we walked in we had no idea where to go, order, or pay and nobody offered assistance from the store!
Now I LOVED the Glen Harbor Marina. This is where we ate our expensive sandwiches! Lol. They had really clean picnic tables right next to the docks and the view was just breathtaking! It was only a few blocks from the boutiques and restaurants and across the street from a hotel. There was also a bar/waterfront grille nearby and a kayak rental!
We finally arrived at our campground at Lakeside Beach State Park in Waterport, NY. We have stayed here twice before and it never fails to impress with its gorgeous sunsets, breathtaking views of Lake Ontario and spacious campsites.
About two minutes past the campground is an adorable farmers stand/ice cream shop! The girls working were SO friendly and the fresh fruit and baked goods were inexpensive and delicious!
The next morning my Mom and I woke up at 5 am to catch the sunrise over the lake! Those pictures will be shared later this week!!!
The last stop of the trip was Niagara Falls and man oh man if you go there and don’t do the Maid of the Mist….. You are SLACKING!!! Such a wonderful and once in a lifetime opportunity!
